Today’s Workout – Speed Workout
Total Mileage: 11.05 miles
Total Time: Workout (1:34:01), Warm Up (4:30)
Average Pace: 8:54 min/mile
I woke up this morning early to get to the gym for my workout before heading out for a job interview.
I wasn’t really feeling working out early, but I knew that I would feel great after finishing it.
This is the workout my husband helped me plan out before I went to bed last night.
I have done a lot of tempo work lately which is great, but I needed something different to keep things interesting and keep my body guessing!
The items that are in the large font are the actual workout. The other items are important but the biggest thing is to make sure you are hitting the workout itself.
My paces for this were:
8 x 400 – 6:40 mile/mile
30 minutes on (strides) – 6:31 min/mile
This workout was tough but really made the time on the treadmill go by SO fast. I have to say looking at the workout before hand a 6:40 minute mile sounded crazy!
My legs were so tired by the end of the last 400, but I was so happy to have completed it at that pace! You will be surprised what your body can do.
I jogged a little bit more and ended it with some quick stride work.
I did have a little bit of a runner’s battle scar. I am not really sure why there is blood on my shoe, I think I had a blood blister that must have torn while I was running.
My smile turned to kind of sad when I realized this was the last speed workout I’d be doing at my gym for now.
I am cutting my gym membership since I am currently unemployed. Once I get a job or once winter hits (whichever comes first) I will be adding it back. We have a treadmill at home, so for the time being I will be getting a lot more aquatinted with it.
It was so nice getting my workout done early. I showered and got ready for my interview at the gym.
For those of you interested, my job interview went well. I won’t probably hear anything until next week but I am hopeful. The schedule would be 12:30-8:30, which even though it is late I am a bit happy with it because it would allow me plenty of time each morning to run. I mean priorities right!?
The only question about the job is the pay that would be offered, but I am keeping my fingers crossed!
What was your workout today?
Do you have any funny job interview stories for me? I need something to make me smile today 🙂

Wow, killer treadmill workout. This morning I did a total of 7 miles. I did 3 mile warmup and then speedwork after that (basically sprinting on one street, easy on the next). I agree it’s amazing what the body can handle! Hmmm…well at one interview I had just gotten an iPhone and had no idea how to work it so I thought I had silenced it, but really I had turned the volume on so it rang during the interview – I was embarrassed but luckily the ladies were super nice. Good luck!!
Great workout!! It is always amazing to test my body and see what it can do! Haha that’s funny! I am very paranoid about that and always make sure my phone is on silent!
Funny interview story: I was unfortunate that the company I was supposed to work for out of college went under in the ‘Crash of ’87’, so I graduated without a job and with a tight economy. So I had to interview at a variety of places in the Boston area. One place looked pretty cool, and was just outside of the city. I got directions and headed out to go to the interview.
But there was a problem … I couldn’t find it. The directions were awful, and the street wasn’t shown on my maps. SO I had to find a payphone at a gas station to get more directions – the people at the gas station couldn’t help. I got directions again, and kept trying. By the time I eventually gave up it was 30 minutes after the scheduled time!
I can’t remember the company or job, but 27 years later that feeling sticks with me!
Another thing – I applaud you for doing your best to keep your spirits up! When I got laid off just before moving out to Corning 5 years ago I was very fortunate because I got loads of interviews, a contract job that provided added income and 4 job offers (plus an offer to turn the contract permanent) within 3 months … yet I could never truly relax and just enjoy the extra time I had with my wife and kids in the way I would now. Savor having a bit more time for yourself and for your husband!
I may come across as I always have my spirits up but my husband can attest that its not always that way! I am trying – I focus on him, running, my blog and doing anything I can to help. It sure has been nice being around him much more! Hopefully something will come here soon but for now I am enjoying the extra time – plus my family is coming in town this weekend so that is an added positive!
Thanks for sharing your story 🙂 I showed up today to my interview 30 minutes early because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to find it!
That is why I said ‘doing your best’ … I get what you’re saying 🙂
I derailed my point of my interview story – note the ‘calling for directions’, ‘map book’, and stopping at a pay phone. Imagine that now – I would have the directions from their web site, double-checked against Google Maps, used my smartphone for GPS or sent the info to my in-car GPS system from the phone app … and if there was an issue I would pull over and call the place from my car.
I had a 5 miler on tap, knocked it out on the treadmill because it is so hot here it makes me want to never go outside! Fingers crossed for the job!
That’s a killer workout! When you say “off” between the 30 seconds, do you actually rest or do you jog or walk? I did a short tempo run – a mile warm up, 4 miles @ tempo, a mine cool down. Good luck with the job – that schedule actually sounds amazing! If I worked 8 hours I think a dream schedule would be 10-6 or 11-7, so that’s not too far off! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
I ran the “off” part at a 9:40 pace so a slow comfortable jog. Thanks for the well wishes! I am keeping my fingers crossed!! 🙂
Great job on the run. Sounds killer! Glad the interview went well, sending prayers your way!
Aww thank you! 🙂 I appreciate it!
