This morning was all about recovery.
I woke up and got started on my run about 6:30 – I know right, who am I!?
The husband had a running date with a friend of his so I thought I might as well get up and get the day started since I had a ton to do to get ready for my family coming in tomorrow.
I typically run about 7 on Friday’s, but as the morning started I had a feeling that was going to get cut down.
I started outside trying to run aimlessly for the 7 miles, but my hip was REALLY bothering me. It wasn’t dull pain either it was shooing right down my leg.
I went back inside with every intention of just calling it a rest day. As you know that is really hard for me to do.
I came upstairs, stretched, and the guilt started to kick in a little bit. I also had a treadmill staring me in the face.
I decided I would give the run one more go and the minute my hip started hurting I would stop. I started running and after about .20 miles my hip loosened up and was ready to go.
I stayed around a 9:30 pace for most of the run and made sure to not push it too hard.
This morning my home treadmill was a life savor (or should I say run savor). I usually give it a bad name, but on days like today it was exactly what my body and mind needed.
I also think the poster I put beside our treadmill also helped to give me some motivation. Whenever I don’t want to run it is a constant reminder of what I am training for.
As I mentioned earlier I have family coming into town tomorrow so I have a ton of errands and cleaning to get taken care of today. Leave it to me to put it off until the day before to get it started.
My first stop was the auto shop to take my car in to have some service work done. I waited about 20-30 minutes for the husband to come get me so I enjoyed a free cup of coffee and started reading “Born To Run.”
I posted on Instagram last night to get some thoughts on this book and so far everyone has raved about it so I thought I would give it a try.
I’m off to be productive! Happy Friday!
What are some of your favorite running books? I am always looking for new reads
Sorry about your hip pain-where near your hip does it hurt? I used to have really bad hip flexor pain-so I know a little bit about how to help with that. Sometimes I would also get pain right near the boney area of the hip and KT Tape really helped.
Hope you enjoy the book-I read it a long time ago-but it’s one of those must read running books.
Ugh! Definitely sorry to hear about your hip pain. That really stinks!
Enjoy time with your family this weekend!
Hope your hip pain was better on today’s long run! Someday I definitely want a home treadmill – even though I really hate the treadmill and would always rather run outside, I think it would help for days when the weather is awful or I just can’t squeeze in a regular run for some reason!
Running with the Buffaloes is a great running book! Its all about the University of Colorado’s 1998 men;s xc season.
I will have to give that one a try! Thanks for the recommendation Carolyn!
I just finished that book. It was incredibly inspiring and very interesting!

I love all of your treadmill stories. My wife and I are in our 70s and have a treadmill coming tomorrow. When I was in the military I loved running for miles and miles, the more you run the fitter you are and the easier and more fun it is. We both cycle where we live on the Romney Marsh here in Kent UK, it is very flat. We also swim in the sea or the local swimming baths. I had two heart attacks and a quadruple bypass over twenty years ago and still try to keep fit as much as I can. The main trouble is that we both love our food too much. Love your stories Sara.
