Today was the day I finally sucked it up and went to the hair salon.
I haven’t gotten my hair cut in over 2 1/2 years since long before my wedding. It has become long which I loved for a while, but now it just looks stringy and has too much breakage.
It was time for a change.
I went into the hair salon with a couple images to show her what I was thinking:
All of them were basically the same, and I told her that I wanted a slight angle to my hair.
I used to go into hair salons and try to explain what I wanted and it never worked. Always bring a picture of what you are thinking of.Β
Before:
I apologize for the bad picture – I almost forgot to take a before picture so this is in the garage getting ready to head to the hair place.
After
And one more after pictureβ¦.
Two things caused a problem with what I was looking for:
1. My husband made me promise no shorter than my shoulders, which I followed. Unfortunately, my layers were so all over the place she couldn’t do TOO much of angle to my hair without going super short. She didn’t cut much at all off the front, the majority of my length was in the back.
2. I had too many layers around my face. She tried to blend them in as much as you can.
I haven’t gotten the husband’s opinion yet but overall I am happy with it.
It is going to take some getting used to because I have had long hair as long as I can remember. I do feel like I lost a couple pounds in hair though π
Onto non-hair related thingsβ¦.
Last night I made another delicious smoothie in my new Ninja Blender (I am going to have a full review coming soon!)
I adapted it from this recipe I found on Vega’s Website.
Directions: 1. Blend and Enjoy!
It was delicious and really helped to crave my sweet cravings last night!
And finally, as you can tell there is no running happening today AGAIN. I plan on some more arms and abs later, but that is about it.
What is your favorite go to snack when you are craving sweets?
I think it looks great – I can see what you’re saying about variable layers and breakage in the ‘before’ pic.
As for the length and your husband … my wife has had everything from pixie cut (before it was called that) to shoulder length and everything in between. I offer opinions and historical references, but since I’ve had ‘comb optional’ haircuts since the mid-80s I don’t place any constraints on where she wants to go with her hair at any given time.
As for pictures – DEFINITELY! My son wanted to do something like David Tennant (from Dr Who) a couple of years ago and brought a pic … perfect.
My husband had just always preferred longer hair – which is fine, but sometimes I Just need something different!
I am still getting used to it but it feels so much “lighter” and I am hoping when I do run again it will be easier to avoid it getting tangled too! Sometimes a change is just nice especially when other things aren’t looking to bright π
haha I did the same thing.. I’ve had everything from boy short/pixie, to long wavy hair down to my elbows. I get bored with hair easily so it’s always a process, grow it out real long, chop it off. I’m growing it out now for my wedding, but i missed it long.
And sara, i love the cut!!
Yeah that is exactly what I did! I grew my hair out for my wedding and it got way too long! I just needed a change. I am finally getting used to it now and it is so much easier to style! π
It looks awesome! I bet it feels nice to switch things up. Last October I went from pretty darn long hair to a longish pixie cut. I loved the change, and it looked awesome. However, I decided I want my hair longer again so I can play around with it, curl, buns, ect. So I’m in the long process of growing it out again. But sometimes everyone just needs to switch things up a bit. I’m glad you like it! Hang in there with the running. I’m feeling your pain a bit. I’ve been exhausted and having stomach problems on most of my runs, went to the doctor, and I’m now waiting for some lab results. :S I absolutely love smoothies!! One of my favorite things to eat.
Oh no! I hope you get some answers for your exhaustion and stomach pain! That has to be tough!
Yes it is nice to switch it up. I already have a very young looking face and I honestly feel this makes me look younger but it is cleaned up some and I can still play with it and curl it and see what that does! It’ll be longer anyways before I know it! It sure feels nice!
Apples and peanut butter are good for when I’m craving sweets! Also a chocolate protein shake does the trick! Your hair looks great! π
Apples and pears are two of my fave go-to sweet snacks! And since it is all ‘in season’ here in the northeast now, it is even better. I grabbed a ton of pears that I’m loving this week.
It’s funny – my wife is allergic to apples, but loves to bake and go picking … so we do. (this weekend we will, in fact) She cant eat them, and her hands get red and a bit inflamed from working with them – but she has to make her apple pie! And worse yet, it has been bugging her more and more … but last year she developed a peanut allergy – she has’tested it’ a couple of times because peanut butter is her fave … no denying it!
Oh no!!! That’s no fun!! She sounds like she is a GREAT cook! Both of you do! Maybe I need to take some cooking lessons π
I am about to attempt some lean turkey meat balls! So we will see how these turn out π
Years of practice π Actually whe I was young and Julia Child was on TV, there was another show called ‘Cooking with Bernard’ on PBS. I’d watch and take noted quickly (no VCRs yest, no TIVO or Hulu certainly!) … and my family loved it. I was 9 and makig stuffed pork chops (whereas my mom was never much of a cook). My younger son is even better and considering culinary school.
One tip – if you get ground flax-seed (or grind your own), use it instead of bread crumbs in things like meatballs. My family is loving the taste, and it is quite filling (when your teen boys are 6’2″ and 6’3″ this matters a lot π ). It is also much healthier.
Love that tip! Thanks!! I will have to try that next time, I was looking into other options but wasn’t sure quite what to use! π
Thank you π
Oh yes apples and PB are great – I also love bananas and PB! Just one day in to my healthier eating and my body is already feeling so much better even without running! Though I would PREFER to run and eat healthier, but baby steps!
Your new hair looks great! I always take pics in with me to give some sort of idea as to what I am after. It usually works, although I can never re-create my hair the following day! I love that odd feeling you get when you run your hand through your hair and suddenly remember you got it cut!
Oh my gosh I keep doing this exact thing! I run my hands through my hair and it isn’t there anymore! SO crazy!! I am a little nervous about how my hair will look when I style it myself….I guess we will find out! I won’t wash it again until probably Thursday!
Love your hair!!
I’m trying to grow mine out, but I’m unsure whether I actually like it longer or not π
Yeah I grew mine out for my wedding 2 years ago. I liked it long, but then it got to the point where it needed to lose some inches to be healthy again. It is taking some getting used to, but I’ll get there! It does feel so much healthier now!
Long hair is fun for a while, then it is nice for a change π
I. Love. Your. Hair!!! It looks so great! My husband also says no above-the-shoulders! I did Locks of Love one time – the only time I’ve ever had short hair – and neither of us liked it. So it’s a boring old straight-across cut for me, which works out because I don’t spend time to do my hair in the morning before work :).
Thank you!! π One thing I am looking forward to is being able to do my hair so quickly in the mornings! It used to take me forever because my hair was so long! I think I will like it a bit more once it grows out a LITTLE longer! π
holy cuteness- your cut looks great!! I am always freaked to do anything with my hair because I’m afraid I’ll hate it and I’m too emotionally unstable to look at a bad hair day everyday. π π π
hahaha this made me laugh! I am the SAME way! I am not 100% happy with it… it is still taking some getting used to BUT I will eventually get used to it right!? Let’s hope so!
