Today’s Run – Easy Run
Total Mileage: 11.05 miles
Total Time: 1:42:19
Average Pace: 9:15 min/mile
I love Sunday runs. They aren’t always easy, but they are great to clear my head and allow my legs to recover from Saturday.
The weather was beautiful today so it was back out to my favorite scenic country road course for my easy run.
Another reason I love Sunday – I get to look back at my running accomplishments for the week!
Monday – Tempo Run
0.5 mile warm up, 1 mile at 8:49, 3 miles at 8:20, 2 miles at 8:06, 2 miles at 8:00, 2 miles at 7:53, and a 1.55 mile cool down. Total of 12 miles.
Tuesday – Easy Run
5.26 HOT miles outside followed by 6 miles on the treadmill averaging a 9:20 pace for a total of 11 miles.
Wednesday – Speed Workout
0.5 mile warm up, 1.5 miles easy, 5 x 1 mile repeats (7:24 min pace) with an 800 jog in between each, and a 1.6 mile cool down for a total of 11 miles.
Thursday – Easy Run
10 easy miles outside averaging a 9:06 pace.
Friday – Recovery Run
7 miles without my Garmin and headphones. I ran the first 5 with Wes.
Saturday – Long Run
Progressive long run starting at 8:57 and working my way down to 7:41 for a total of 16.1 miles. Average pace of an 8:49 min/mile.
Sunday – Easy Run
11 miles easy outside on my favorite course. I averaged a 9:15 min/mile.
I had between 10-11 miles on today’s agenda, but I told myself I would listen to my body to determine how I felt.
It was the perfect temperature – still warm enough for shorts and tank top but just cool enough to break out the arm sleeves.
Of course I had to bring out the shimmering BIC Band too – felt like I needed a little pick me up!
I ran out 5 miles and at my usual turn around I felt alright, my legs were tired but I knew I had one more mile in me. I ran out another 0.5 mile and then turned around to total the run at 11.
The weather was beautiful and even though my legs were not as recovered as they were last week, there was still so much to enjoy during this run!
Total Miles – 78 miles
I can’t believe another week is done! It is always such a great feeling on Sunday afternoons!
This week’s joys/successes:
1. Great long run. My long run on Saturday went better than expected. It was also my quickest to date which is always a huge confidence builder!
2. Two tough workouts completed. Monday and Wednesday’s workouts were HARD. I remember both times feeling like giving up but I pushed through! I learned a lot about myself and realized I am capable of a lot more than I give myself credit for.
This week’s struggles:
1. Tough week personally. This past week has been a week of constant fighting with various organizations and frustrations around my unemployment. I am keeping my hopes up that my luck turns around this coming week, but personally I had a rough week and it made getting my head into my runs hard.
2. My calf. I have been having calf trouble’s as I mentioned in Friday’s post. It is not still quite where I want it to be, but it is getting there! Hopefully I’ll be able to knock that out this week.
Tell me about your week – how did your training or workouts go?
I get tired just reading your recap! That’s a lot of miles! Just wondering if you ever take a planned off day from running? How does your body keep up with that kind of demand? (Seriously wondering, not being judgmental at all!) I’d love to train like that but don’t think my body would like it!
Hey Jessica! Thanks for stopping by the blog. I don’t have a planned day off per say. I used to take every Friday off, but now instead I just do 6-7 really easy miles on Friday. If I need to take a day off and I feel that my body is really suffering I do. It is pretty much based on feel. I have found that by doing the one day slow and shorter it seems to help me recover very well! It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I slowly worked my way up, but like I said I simply go by how my body feels. I really believe in training by “feel” and listening to my body – about 3/4 weeks ago I had some hip issues and I could tell my body needed a break so I took a rest day and it helped! It just depends on how my body is doing 🙂 Hope that rambling made sense!
Hey girl, you’re making me nervous! What about a day off?? I know the 5.26 miles is “shorter,” but there are a lot of long runs and tempo runs in there! You’re crushing it (and so inspiring!) but I don’t want you to get injured :).
My day off if I need it is technically Friday! Right now I am running a slow easy 6-7 miles depending on how I feel, but if I can tell my body is run down or I need a break i’ll take it fully off! I promise I will listen to my body 🙂 I don’t want to get injured either haha! My training seems to do better with one day of slow running, but if a day off is needed then I take it. Thankfully after cutting my miles down by about 10 a week my body really has responding amazingly! I think I finally found my “happy” mileage!
OK, OK :). You know your body best!! Just making sure you’re listening to it! YAY for finding a happy mileage!
Haha I have learned after many failed attempts FINALLY to listen to my body! 🙂 I do appreciate the concern though! Oh, and if I do get injured you can be the first one to tell me “I told you so” 🙂 HAHA
