Did you check out my Honey Stingers Review? If you haven’t, you should! It is one of my favorite products!
I know a rest day is something you haven’t seen in quite a while on the blog! It wasn’t easy to do, and honestly it may be lasting more than one day. I know!! WHAT!??!!
Something wasn’t right when I finished my workout yesterday. I don’t know quite yet what is going on, but I do know that my body needs a break. I would be lying if I said this is easy for me to do. After discussion with my husband we both agreed that I needed to take a break for a few days – probably for the rest of the week. Yes, WEEK.
I don’t know what I am going to do with myself or how i am going to get rid of this stress, but I do know that if this helps my leg I will be forever grateful!
I just ask you to bear with me during this and hopefully everything will work out in my favor!
I thought I would share with you some of the things I ate today. I don’t really do these much, because well to be honest usually my diet isn’t stellar.
If I don’t run though I tend to do a better job at paying attention to eating. I know most people do a “What I Ate Wednesday” post but I decided to switch it up a bit!
Breakfast:
Vanilla Greek Yogurt
Chia Seeds
Small amount of Glutamine mixed in
Mid-Afternoon:
Iced Coffee from Tim Hortons
In order to cut down on the calories I brought my own sugar free creamer from home. I don’t always trust the people in the coffee shops, so to avoid any confusion I just bring my own.
I worked through must of lunch at Tim Horton’s trying to get some things done. I couldn’t handle sitting in my house any longer.
Dinner:
Even though this hasn’t been made yet, I set up my best friend the crock pot to make a Bourbon Chicken recipe I found on Pinterest.
I am going to put it on top of brown rice and service with broccoli and corn on the cob. Yum! I will let you know how it turns out!
We are actually having company for dinner tonight. NC State (WOLFPACK!!!) and Clemson are playing tonight and even though we are probably going to get humiliated on national television, my husband invited over one of his friends from medical school to watch the game.
It was a little last minute so I had to think of something to make pretty quick.
I also made some boxed brownies for the boys to enjoy. I am sure there will be some other snacking going on after dinner, but that has yet to be determined 🙂
What sports do you enjoy watching?
What do you do to keep yourself busy when you can’t run or workout?
I generally just creep on your blog, but I wanted to say….good for you! I was legitimately concerned with your lack of rest days, especially with the other stress you currently have in your life. I think your body will appreciate some rest and you’ll come back stronger and faster than ever. As for my rest days, I generally focus on stretching fueling my muscles. Also, anything relaxing from slow walks, to baking and reading. Try to enjoy these days. I know it’s difficult, but your body will thank you.
I spend time with my dogs when it’s not a running day. Well, I spend time with them every day, but I like to take them outside and work them out when I’m not expected to run. It’s nice and I know they love it 🙂
Aww that’s a great idea! Maybe I will do some extra of that tomorrow!
I was concerned when I saw the post yesterday (Instagram? Twitter? Facebook? Who knows anymore!) asking about fractures … sounds like taking some rest is a good idea. You’ve been aggressive with miles …and don’t want to mess yourself up!
It is really hard to take ‘downtime’ when you are out of work and job-hunting. I know I felt guilty if I wasn’t doing *something*.
We aren’t big sports watchers, but having spent >40 years in Boston I will watch some of those games. And going to an engineering school in the Northeast means ‘hockey’. 🙂 Not the most televised sport!
I can’t even tell you how hard this first day has been with everything else going on. Thankfully I was able to unplug with my husband and his friend and not think about things tonight. This weekend is going to be a real test for me – the best thing I can do is keep myself busy during this time of rest. It really was my escape so hopefully everything will work out!
I usually bake when I take a rest day! I’ve definitely felt that restless feeling many times…sometimes it even makes me crabby not to work out, but I know for my legs it’s the best.
Haha love it! Baking is dangerous thought I did make some brownies for my husband and his friend tonight, I resisted though 🙂 I am pretty proud of that! Tomorrow is a new day! 🙂
You are definitely smart to rest! I have now not run for 3 weeks bc of my it band issue and mentally it’s been a challenge. Thank goodness for the elliptical and I started doing Tracy Anderson workout videos. Walks with my dogs too. Good for you for resting!
It is crazy hard! How did your PT go? Did you notice any difference from it?
I’m SO sorry that your body is telling you you need a break :(, but I’m glad you’re listening to it! It sucks to rest, but it’ll pay off in the end. And, I know you didn’t ask, but I’d be completely gnawing my arm off if I only ate (what looks like) 200 calories or so before dinner. Your body needs fuel to recover, girl!
Yeah that is normal! haha I ate a late breakfast and then got working on a few things and forgot about lunch 🙂 whoops! Promise it won’t happen again! I hope I feel better soon too thanks! This weekend is going to be a hard break to take, but I need it.
At PT she definitely gave me some great exercises to do with a band to strengthen. I have to be diligent about doing my exercises daily as well as foam rolling and stretching. I think it’s just going to take time to heal though. I beat myself up pretty bad on my last really long run. I should have stopped and I kept on going like another 15 miles…so I have some recover to do…
