I am so excited to bring you a new product review and giveaway!
I first found out about EnergyBits when they hosted a #VegRunChat (if you are on Twitter you should check it out – Sunday at 9:00 pm EST) a couple weeks ago.
I couldn’t wait to try them out, so they sent me a sample to give a shot!
I always have a hard time mustering up the energy for workouts and this seemed perfect.
Company Background:
ENERGYbits is a new Boston based sports nutrition company. Our “bits” are rapidly becoming the fuel of choice for athletes and people looking to lead active lifestyles. ENERGYbits haste the highest concentration of protein in the world and deliver a steady stream of energy, all naturally and all without sugar, caffeine, chemicals or stomach distress. Even better, ENERGYbits are the only protein in the world that also contain natural antioxidants and Omega 3 which reduce muscle inflammation, iron which prevents fatigue, chlorophyll which builds the immune system and electrolytes which replenish mineral imbalances, all for just one calorie per tab. No other protein offers all this.
ENERGYbits are all natural too, because they are a food, not a supplement. They have just one ingredient – 100% organically grown spirulina algae. Algae has been used by Olympic athletes for over 50 years, but is still virtually unknown in the USA and Canada. We are the first company to bring algae to national attention as a high protein, high performance snack food for athletes and active consumers
How can you go wrong with that!? The thing I love most about ENERGYbits is the fact that they are all natural and don’t have a huge list of crazy ingredients included.
Why algae?
Algae has actually been used worldwide for over fifty years in many countries. It has the highest concentration of protein, chlorophyll, beta carotene, antioxidants and vitamins in the world.
It was first introduced after WW II by the American Government to prevent mass starvation in Japan/Asia. Japanese now add it to virtually everything due to this remarkable nutritional value. It has been said that “one gram of algae has the nutritional equivalent of 1,000 grams of fruit and vegetables.” – What is not to like!?
Unlike many other supplements that we take before and after a workout, algae is a FOOD and is grown not created and mixed together in a laboratory. It is grown a lot like other vegetables in water, then harvested, dried, and packaged much like dried fruit. Unlike dried fruit however it has NO sugar/fructose and NO chemicals.
For athletes and runners the protein in algae is already in amino ace form so it is absorbed instantly. This allows the algae to deliver a constant and steady stream of energy without a rush or crash or any distress on your stomach. WIN!!
Taste
Score: 4 out of 5
The only reason I didn’t rank this a complete 5 is if you actually get the tablets close enough to your nose where you can smell it, it isn’t the most appealing.
The great thing about the tablets is that they are swallowed so you really don’t taste it!
Effects:
Score: 5 out of 5
To get the full effect of ENERGYbits you are instructed to take 30 of them before your workout, when you feel lethargic, or just need a boost of energy!
Each tablet contains 1 calorie each so you are taking in about 30 calories.
I took them before one of my swimming workouts last week and I really did feel an energy increase! I was trying to wait and do my workouts later in the day and I noticed more alertness and that “ready to go” feeling after I took it.
I prefer taking these SO much more than many pre-workouts I have taken in the past when you don’t REALLY know what is in it. You know this is natural!
It’s 100% vegan, 100% raw, 100% non GMO, 100% kosher, and contains over 40 vitamins and minerals.
Overall Reaction:
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product! I love that I know what is going into my body and what I am taking.
I can tell a definite difference when I take these before my workout.
There are actually a total of 4 different types that ENERGYbits provides: RECOVERbits, ENERGYbits, VITALITYbits, and SKINNYbits. You can go to their website to learn more about each.
Now time for a GIVEAWAY!!!
ENERGYbits has been nice enough to offer a sample of their product to one of my readers!

The giveaway will end on Sunday, November 3rd! GOOD LUCK!
Wait … 30, as in THIRTY?!?
Ha yes Michael, 30! It sounds like a lot but they go down really easily!
I am all about some caffeine!! Especially in the morning before I run! I am on a Starbucks blonde roast kick at the moment and I am also a fan of the Clif bars that contain caffeine (mint chocolate and toffee flavors), and Clif Mocha shot gels which also contain caffeine! I really think caffeine makes a difference in your performance!
I love the Starbucks blonde roast – Yum! so delicious! If it weren’t so late right now I would be on my way there!
I like the Clif shots as well but my favorite is Chocolate!
I’m so glad you love them – they’re taking the world by storm!!
30 definitely sounds like a lot to take at once. Are the useful during wrk out to? I can’t imagine having to take 30 pills on a long run. But all natural sounds great to me, so maybe it’s worth a try! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on them 🙂
I have been looking for new things to try! I tried Jelly beans this Saturday but didn’t notice much.
I like coffee for energy pre workouts …kind of interested in these though. 😉
I have tried other things in the past and they always upset my stomach. No one wants to be on a long run and have that happen. Would love to try these!
I’m glad to read such a great review for these! EnergyBits very kindly offered them to me after I tweeted about my half marathon training and I can’t wait to try them.
I just got my sample and absolutely love them!!
I like to drink gnc pro sculpt before a workout!! It gives me a quick boost of energy.
I try and work out first thing in the morning, and make sure I go to bed early the night before. A little cup of coffee helps as well.
I usually just drink some coffee before my work outs. I recently started trying some pre-work out drink, but I’m not sure if I like it yet. I want to try different ones!
Pre-workout drinks are all VERY different. Just find the one that is right for you! Some people can handle certain ones while others cannot so I always test out a lot of them!
I’m interested to try them if I win!
Sounds great! I love the idea of an all natural pick me up. I think coffee is my main pre-workout energy
I think thats what I loved the most about it was that it was all natural!
*booster. Accidentally submitted my comment without the last word!
shot of espresso gives me a boost!
I work out right when I wake up, so that I maximize my energy-I am NOT an afternoon exerciser!
bagel, or peanut butter. or first thing in the AM.
That is my pre-marathon food. Bagel with honey! Sometimes PB. Great food for pre-workout!
these sound so interesting!! for long runs i like dates or GU, but for my everyday workouts i am a gum chewer (bad habit…?)
I have never tried dates! That sounds like a good idea! Nope, I am a gum chewer too, so not a bad habit in my books! 🙂
I use Gu during super long runs or when I’m racing the half marathon distance.
I try and have a cup of coffee before an early am workout…later in the day I usually have to have a granola bar or banana to pick me up. These would be a great addition to my snack!
To make sure that I have plenty of energy for my workouts I try to get as much sleep as possible and eat a little snack before I head out for my run!!
I have a half coming up and would love to use these. Im starting to go GF and eat better and these will definitely fit in that new life style
