I never thought I’d say it but these crazy two weeks of traveling are coming to an end.
We are currently on the road driving back to Pennsylvania. I’d be lying if I’m saying that I am excited. It’s hard for me to leave this place I love, but I am excited to see all of my fur children very soon!
I know they will be overwhelming with love so that is what I keep in mind when I feel sad.
Oh, and the holidays are coming! That also makes me very happy.
Without further adieu here is my recap of my workouts for the week.
Monday – Walk and Slight “shuffling”
I walked for 1 hour and 30 minutes and then did about the width of a soccer field shuffling in the running motion. This was my first attempt to see how my leg was going to do.
Tuesday – Rest
Wednesday – Walk and Weights
1 hour walking at a 1% incline at 3.7 mph followed by some weights and ab work.
Thursday – Rest
Friday – Walk and Weights
32 minute walk on the treadmill at a 1% incline at 3.7 mph followed by upper body weights.
Saturday – Elliptical, Rowing, and Weights
30 minutes easy on the elliptical, 15 minutes of rowing, and lots of weights. I pretty much covered just about every muscle on my body.
My whole body is sore today and I think it is a very good thing we are traveling or else I wouldn’t be able to do much of anything.
Sunday – Rest
Total Workout Summary:
Workouts – 4
Rest Days – 3
I am happy with the workouts this week and am FINALLY starting to see some improvements in my leg.
Okay now I need your help!
The husband and I have had just about had it with AT&T. We have been with them for about 5 years since we got our first iPhones but after this trip and having reception maybe half the time we have decided we are probably going to make the switch.
We also are considering switching our phones.
We’ve browsed a little bit, but are honestly just ready to move on from the iPhone.
What type of phone do you have? Do you like it? Any recommendations?
I really haven’t looked at any other type of phone in quite some time and we need some help!
We are considering the:
Samsung Galaxy S4
LG G2
I really know very little about the other types of phones, so any help you can give us would be GREAT!!
Hope everyone has a great Sunday! Look forward to getting back to normal this week! Thanks for your patience during this crazy time of travel!
What type of phone do you have? Do you like it?
We are on Verizon and got all four of us iPhones last Christmas. It is amazingly convenient because we can all share the same iTunes apps and music all goes into the same ‘bucket’, and iMessage is so much better than standard texting – same for FaceTime. It also helps that my brother and my parents are on iPhones, and everyone on both sides of the family is on Verizon.
A specific note – I traveled a *ton* for work from Feb – August to a company site in Kentucky, and where we were running our experiments there was no cell service … but there was WiFi. So I couldn’t send/receive calls or texts, but by linking to the company WiFi I could do iMessage to Lisa and the boys (and anyone else on iOS) all day long.
But until last year I was on Android from the start in 2008, and still have a Galaxy SIII (very nice). There are pros and cons for both Android and iOS – but since you use a Mac, you should be aware that most Android devices are NOT ‘plug & play’ with Apple products.
To get photos on my SIII to the Mac I will typically use DropBox, which is a multi-step process compared to Photo Streams. Getting music from iTunes for me means pulling my SD card and inserting into the Mac.
But if you want to go Android, I would recommend the S4 *especially over anything from LG* for several reasons: build quality (HTC is better), features, support and accessories. Since the S4 is the second most popular smartphone, it has a great variety of accessories such as cases, etc. No one else in Android comes close. Samsung is building a set of apps and services to lessen dependance on Google, so you get those choices – many are gimmicky but getting better.
Also, not sure if it matters, but pretty much ALL apps are ‘iPhone First’. And many are iOS-only. I tried to see how I could do using an Android tablet to replace iPad for a bit (something I do every year) and was appalled at the sorry state of Android tablet apps. And by how much stuff isn’t available – the smartphone situation is better, but be sure to look before you leap.
So … your choice should be based on how you plan to use it, what others in your ‘circle’ use for phone and carrier, and so on. Where we are located we’re basically locked to Verizon (AT&T has *just* gotten 4G in part of the area), and having everyone on iOS means sharing photo streams with family, and so on.
Thank you so much for all your information Michael!
We do enjoy our iphones but since we are looking to switch providers we just think it is time for a change. The galaxy S4 seems to be our top choice though we really need to go and try it out some more! We want something comparable and after reading it seems this is the best one!
More research to do but I love hearing everyones opinions 🙂
Yes the Galaxy Note *IS* huge, I could never do it, I like a small phone in my pocket, and do most of the ‘heavy lifting’ using the iPad (forgot yours from earlier posts).
Another thought is the Galaxy S4 Mini (not sure if it is on Verizon) – it is a cute little thing, and seems pretty decent, all depends on the size you want / can tolerate. For me the Galaxy S4 is about as big as I would want.
Final thought (yeah, right!) … be sure to check network coverage in the various places Wes has interviewed – and that tells me that Verizon is your main choice. Sprint is terrible for us, and for many others; AT&T … well, you’ve said you’re done with them; so that leaves Verizon.
I have an iphone on AT&T for personal use, and a Blackberry on T-Mobile for work. The Blackberry is SOOOOOO bad that I’m overly positive about my iphone. Hope you find a solution that works for you! Also glad you got in a fun workout yesterday, and hope the soreness is improving!
It really is! I haven’t had any soreness in almost 2 weeks and that is such an awesome feeling!
I have heard bad things about the blackberry – it just doesn’t seem like they can compete anymore!
I have the iphone but I use verizon and I never have any issues. I have sprint (not a smartphone) on my work phone and I always get much better service with verizon than sprint. I’m not really familiar with any phones besides the iphone so can’t really give any advice as far as that goes!
Happy to hear the leg is feeling better! It seems like you found a good balance with taking a rest day after each of your workouts!
Yes I had Verizon 5-6 years ago and never had problems! I have had more issues with reception – while traveling the husband and I both went with no service for over 2 hours several times! When that is your only form of communication that is not good! It wasn’t like we were in a crazy area either!
Thank you for the encouragement 🙂
When i lived in the states, I had sprint and felt it had great service but that was before iphone took way off. I have an htc product and love it.
Yeah we have had the iPhone for about 5 years now and I just think we are ready for a change! I am enjoying looking at all the options out there!
Ooh … I had two more things and kept forgetting one of them:
– Galaxy Note 3: I had the Note 2 last year but got rid of it, for me it was too big as a phone and too small as a tablet (I do most of my stuff on the iPad). But for many who just have phone and laptop, the Note series works great. I spent some time with one at Best Buy while shopping for the kids, and the newest hardware is very impressive, and the Samsung apps are less gimmicky.
– Black Friday: check out DealNews and other sites, I have seen the Galaxy S4, iPhone 5S and others for really cheap deals on Black Friday.
Yes I think the note is HUGE! I don’t think I could ever have a phone that is that big! That is why I am looking at the galaxy it seems more manageable as a phone. I have a tablet so I don’t need another one of those.
Great idea about black friday! We are still playing around with plans so we will see what happens!
I have AT&T and have the Galaxy 3 (time to upgrade) and I absolutely love it!
I am really really leaning towards the Galaxy S4 – I am glad that you have positive things to say about it! So far everyone seems to love it!
I would definitely stick with the iPhone just because the operating system is so much easier to use (I’ve had a droid before) but serice wise I would go with verizon. I use Verizon and I am hardly ever without service. Hope this helps!
I have the Galaxy SIII Mini, and I love it. I find that most smart phones these days are just too big for my (tiny) hands. The Mini is perfect, and I love having an Android phone. I would definitely recommend it!
I haven’t looked at the mini! Someone mentioned it to me but we haven’t gone to test out all the phones yet – will have to keep this in mind!! I have never used android I think that is what I am most worried about. Hopefully I’ll get used to it, I am sure it will be a learning curve like anything 🙂
