As someone mentioned on Instagram, it must have been the fact that it was Friday the 13th but I felt in a funk all morning.
I did start it off with a delicious breakfast and view of the snow. I don’t like the snow when I’m out in it, but sometimes sitting inside watching it fall is very peaceful.
Wes had to take a practice test for his upcoming test on Monday, so I spent most of the morning working on stuff for the blog and getting some work done around the house.
After a couple hours I was getting restless. I still hadn’t decided if I wanted to get in a workout or take a rest day.
I started to realize that the only way I was going to kick my “stuck in house” funk was to go to the gym. I just made sure I would take it very easy with whatever I decided to do.
I decided to just walk today and walked for a total of 60 minutes.
I stayed at 3.6 mph and a 1% incline the whole time. I even brought a book to read which would insure that I was taking it easy.
Wes and I headed to the grocery store to pick up a few things for dinner after we left the gym.
He’s been really having a craving for pasta salad recently, so I decided to pick up a few things to make it for him tonight before his long run tomorrow.
This was what the pasta salad looked like before it was all mixed up.
It was delicious! I only had a small amount, but Wes really enjoyed it. I was trying to make a “knock off” of a pasta salad they have on the salad bar at Wegmans (our local grocery store). He raves about it every time.
I won’t say it is quite to that level, but it was good and we have lots leftover to last us throughout the week.
I will be sharing the recipe on the blog very soon!
There may have been a small treat made last night too.
I baked up a batch of Cake Mix Cookie Bars. I am actually saving them for tomorrow, but Wes and I split one and they were so delicious!
They are super easy and great if you need a quick dessert for dinner, kids, or a holiday party.
I am super excited for another Saturday. I am doing another test run today (I haven’t run since Monday). Even though I have taken a good amount of time off, it still always makes me nervous.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Did you bake or cook anything this weekend?
Do you have a go-to dessert to make if needed for a party or get together?
Today is the day I am in a funk! Trying to get the motivation!! I figure if I can just get through the first 30 minutes I will be fine haha! Sometimes you just need an easy day!
Exactly! Once you get going you will feel better! Though I will admit even my walk yesterday was tough! I was glad I brought a book! Enjoy your Saturday Ashley 🙂
The pasta salad looks so yummy! I always thing of it as a summer-time dish but now I’m craving some.
Little and I are going to bake some Christmas shortbreads today and decorate them (his favorite part).
Aww that sounds like sun a fun thing! Enjoy your time with your little 🙂
Pasta salad was very good – will be sharing the recipe soon!
I always suggest super-upbeat music that is out of your normal listening cycle (James Brown, P-Funk, etc) and a change-up of sorts – so going to the gym was a great plan! 🙂
We are running in all different directions today – older son has a party, younger son is DJ-ing a birthday party, wife working … me playing Dad taxi service 🙂
Tomorrow is baking day – we are making toffee and a few different types of cookies (mocha slices, peppermint pinwheels, grasshopper cookies, and gingerbread). The kids chose more of a few types rather than more types of cookies. They are also interested in making the gingerbread train again, which was fun when they were younger but we haven’t done in a few years.
Your food looks great – you are definitely coming along, good for you! 🙂 Hope you guys enjoy the weekend!
Sounds like you have a very busy day ahead of you! Hope your taxi service makes all its necessary stops! If your weather is anything like ours – be careful!
Baking day – I wast just talking to Wes last night about how we need to have a baking day! Especially once we figure out when/if we are going home I want to bake a bunch of different types of Christmas cookies to take with us!
What are grasshopper cookies? That’s the only one I am unfamiliar with in your list!
Great news on the test run – that has to be a confidence boost. Can’t wait to read more (assuming that comes tomorrow) 🙂
Grasshopper cookies are basically mocha slice cookie sandwiches with peppermint creme frosting center. Yeah, pretty awesome.
And it is great having baking day – something Lisa and I started doing in our apartments, then carried through after we had kids and then they joined in, and now after a few years of eye-rolling and occasional participation they are excited again.
Good luck on the test run!!!!
Thanks Megan! It went well!
Ah, the funk, I am very familiar. I also find it helps to do a totally different workout to shake things up a bit.
I am also now craving pasta salad. Or brownies.
Haha sorry to bring on the cravings 🙂
Yes I think we all deal with “the funk” from time to time. It’s all about learning tricks to get out of it!
Isn’t Wegman’s the greatest grocery store? They recently opened one near my parent’s house in MA and whenever I’m home I beg my mom to take me there! haha
It is amazing! We spent way too much time and money there!
the bars look yummy…..recipe? or is that what you said would be coming? ha!
It’s super simple but I will get them up for your this week!
I think I was in that same funk. 🙁 At least the weather has been great here so that helps a little. I don’t bake anything because that would be too dangerous for me. I’d eat my creations until I got sick, especially chocolate chip cookies. Man I love the wonderful smell of baking though…
Yeah we do not have the nice weather, I am jealous!! I don’t bake that often. Usually the only times I do are around a weekend or holiday.
There is nothing better than the smell of baking! Agree 100% with you!
