Happy Sunday! Oh yeah, and can you believe it is the first day of December?
Where did November go!? I guess traveling for half the month had something to do with it!
I started the morning off with some coffee and CLICK protein powder.
I am telling you if you aren’t a fan of normal coffee flavorings or are looking for a change trying adding protein powder to your coffee – it is really good!
Since it is Sunday it is time for a recap of this week’s workouts:
Monday – Test Run #1 and Spinning
Test Run 1: 1.25 slow miles outside on the grass.
I then went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the spin bike and worked the abs a bit.
Tuesday – Walk
Easy 30 minute walk outside with Zoe.
Wednesday – Rest
Thursday – Spinning
45 minutes spinning at the gym.
Friday – Test Run #2 and Walking
Test Run 2: A total of 2 miles on the treadmill very slow.
Walked for 10 minutes to cool down.
Saturday – Test Run # 3, Walking, and Weights
Test Run 3: Total of 3 miles at 10:00 min pace, focusing on form.
I then walked for 30 minutes for a total of an hour on the treadmill.
I followed this up with some upper body weights, a few squats, and some ab work and stretching before calling it a day.
I am really noticing a difference now that I am making a point to focus on strength training at least 3 days a week.
Sunday – Rest
Week Recap:
Rest Days – 2
Workout Days – 5
I am not going to get ahead of myself but I am feeling a LITTLE more confident after another week of very positive test runs.
I have a long way to go. I still need to perfect and work on my form. I HAVE to fix the mistakes I made before so I don’t have a repeat. My form and strength training along with proper nutrition are my biggest focuses right now.
The only thing I wish is that the weather would cooperate a little bit better! The more it snows the harder it is for me to run outside on grass.
The rest of our night was pretty low key.
I caught this little girl laying on our bed. Zoe normally is not allowed up there, but we let her up ONCE on Thanksgiving and now she thinks she owns the place.
Are you sick of seeing pictures of my dog yet? Sorry…. she’s my child so I kind of like her. 🙂
We hung out at home after dinner and watched a few movies on Netflix.
Oh yea, and took some goofy pictures.
It was pretty much a perfect Saturday night.
How was your training this week?
Runners – do you focus on strength training or form drills at all?
Looks like a great week! Still can’t get over how cute your dog is! I focused more on increasing some speed, but I need to get a little more serious about doing some weight training. I really can’t stand it. lol!
Awww thanks 🙂 She is pretty cute! Yeah weight training is hard because after running I am always so exhausted but it is so important and helpful!
You guys are too cute :). I’m not great at focusing on drills or strength training since I always feel I have such limited time to work out, BUT I think they’re so important and I always try to get in a few short body-weight interval workouts per week! When I used an online coach for a half marathon several years ago, he gave me some running drills as well – I should get back to those!
Yes I know when you are on a tight schedule usually strength and core work is the first to go! I am really trying to make a point of planning it into my weeks now!
That is so great that you have been able to get in a few runs this week without any pain! Strength training is definitely something that I try to do on a regular basis – I really think it helps my running! Also puppy pictures are always welcome!! I probably take way too many of my pups too!
Glad I am not the only one 🙂 I am taking it slow but HOPEFULLY it will continue to go well!!
No apologies for cute dog pics – loved the one with Zoe and Wes from the other day 🙂 (definitely a ‘sorry, not sorry’ thing!)
And yes, once you give them leeway they assume they own the place! Happened with us and our dogs and the formal living room furniture.
So glad to see you coming along well – and slowly! Those rest days are so important – especially with your running tests.
I haven’t minded the weather this week. Not too cold since Tuesday, and only small amounts of snow here. It really drove home just how crappy the soles are on the Saucony Kinvara 4 – never buying THOSE again!
And no, even though we are about 90% done with shopping, I can’t believe it is December 1st!
90% shopping completed is pretty amazing!! We have done 0% and have a couple crazy weeks coming up! Hopefully we can get it together before Christmas is here!
We keep getting pounded with the snow – hopefully it will give way some this week!
That is a good thing about where we are – we are protected from lake effect stuff by the hills and the finger lakes, so we get only a minimal amount of snow compared to those in Rochester / Buffalo / etc … and that is fine by me! We got 1/2″ today after my run … enough to be beautiful and not much else!
Looks like your recovery is coming along great, and you are taking it easy and being smart! Form can be so tricky…sometimes I see race pictures and I am like wow my form is terrible. But while I am actually running I find it really hard to consciously making changes. I always focus on strengthening my hips and core because I know those are my weak areas!
Sounds like you’re on the right path for your recovery … yay! I started adding strength training to my routine in the last few weeks and worked hard on my gait for running (I was a heel striker). I picked up some barefoot runners from Merrell this weekend at a Black Friday sale and took them for a 5k spin on the treadmill last night. Running barefoot definitely makes you aware of your form and I noticed how tight my hip flexors were during the first kilometer.
I could never get sick of seeing pictures of Zoe, in fact I think you should post more 😀
I haven’t worked with a Bosu ball in forever – that’ll have to change!
They are a great addition to your strength training! 🙂
