Happy Tuesday!
The blizzard has officially hit and lucky for me it picked the one day that I have a doctors appointment scheduled. I schedule this two months ago so I wasn’t about to try to reschedule. This should be interesting.
A few weeks ago I came into contact with Bob’s Red Mill.
See I love reading other blogs and seeing new healthy recipes to try. One of the common ingredients in a lot of the sweet healthier options is coconut flour. That was really the main product that I wanted to try out.
Bob’s Red mill was gracious enough to allow me to try three of their products. I was beyond thrilled!
1. Coconut Flour
I can’t say how excited I am to use this! There are so many recipes that have been put on hold because I have been waiting to get some coconut flour.
Bob’s Red Mill coconut flour is a great baking flour for pastries and sweets. It also is can be used as a coating for chicken or fish. The ratio typically saying that coconut flour can replace up to 20% of the amount of flour that a recipe calls for. After that you need to add an equal amount of liquid.
2. Quinoa
I can’t say enough amazing things about Quinoa. Quinoa is actually a gluten free grain but is used in cooking just like any other grain. Of course, it is a great source of natural fiber and protein so is also great for vegans or vegetarians who are looking for alternative protein sources.
The great thing about it is that it can be added to just about anything. There are quinoa salads, soups, breads, desserts, and much more! You name it quinoa can probably be added to it.
3. Xantham Gum
I have read over and over again of people using Xanthan gum in their smoothies to give it a “thicker” texture. Xanthan gum is a thickener that can be added to just about any recipe. It also helps to mix ingredients that wouldn’t normally be able to mix together.
Xanthan gum is used a lot in gluten free baking because gluten is normally the property that gives the item the “doughy” feel. This product allows you to still get that same texture.
Bob’s Red Mill has so many different items on their website. It was really hard to just pick three to try out! The quality is beyond amazing and each product has worked wonderfully in all the recipes I have tried so far.
