Happy Saturday! I hope everyone’s day is off to a great start.
I worked all morning yesterday and then made a quick gym stop for a short spinning session with Wes. I have to stay having someone to spin with makes all the difference in the world!
I did 50 very easy minutes on the spin bike before heading home.
When I got home I was so excited to see a new delivery at my door.
If you haven’t ever heard of Wink Desserts you should go check them out! They came in perfect time for the weekend – I can’t wait to have a taste here in the next few days.
I am really excited about these because my sister-in-law is lactose intolerant and I am always on the lookout for different frozen yogurt/ice cream options for her because she has such a hard time finding ones that don’t taste awful.
Keeping my fingers crossed that these make the list so I can forward it on to her! Extra plus is each carton is only 100 calories! Talk about guilt-free snacking.
Once I try them all out I’ll be sure to let you all know what I think.
We had a gift card left over from Christmas and decided to use it and had a quick dinner at Panera.
You Pick Two are my favorite. Tonight was chicken noodle soup and the BBQ Chicken Salad.
Delicious!
I love Panera but think they are outrageously priced. Maybe I am just extremely cheap right now, but for the amount of food you get I don’t think we will be visiting there without a gift card.
We left and decided we were both in need of a treat.
Bulk candy aisle anyone!?
Overall we just wanted to have a relaxing night where Wes could get his mind off the pain and enjoy some quiet time. Goal achieved!
We watched a couple movies and just relaxed the rest of the night. I have a feeling that most of our weekend will look about the same, and I am completely OK with that sometimes you just have to take things easy and enjoy the simple things.
I am now trying to plan out some of next week. I’ve picked up some extra shifts at work (which is GREAT) we need it, but I need to be better at managing my time. I’ve felt a little all over the place the past few days. My house is a mess, the laundry isn’t done, my dog is off her schedule (which causes her to act up), I’ve been up way past midnight trying to get things together for the blog, and I just feel off.
I used to be pretty good at time management but after 5 months of being unemployed you get all messed up. I love the fact that I have this problem because it means I finally have some income coming in. I’ve decided to get a game plan together for the week ahead. My schedule is never the same and each day is a little different so I think planning ahead is the most important thing I can do.
I’ve decided to do a couple things before next week begins:
1. Plan out my workouts on Sunday (and the times I will be working out).
2. Get a blogging calendar together. I love blogging, but if I don’t have a plan I end up sitting there after midnight trying to figure out a plan. This doesn’t end up working out in my favor.
3. Allot time each day where I can unplug and be with my husband.
4. Grocery shop on Sunday night with a focus on buying what I need for several quick, simple, and re-heatable meals. The goal is to make about 3 meals so that the other two days we can eat leftovers.
I can’t begin to tell you how happy having some routine is, even if I feel all out of whack. Having a job (no matter how big or small) gives you something to hang your hat on at the end of the day. It gives you a focus and it keeps your mind off other stresses in your life. On top of that you can meet some really awesome people, and I love learning new things. No matter what – I am very blessed that I’ve had these two opportunities come my way and I will never take them for granted.
Please, share with me what you do to make the most of your time.
Do you plan out things ahead of time on Sunday?
Making the most of my time?! Ahahahaha what is that?! My husband and I make the most of our time by doing absolutely everything together, like grocery shopping, running errands, etc, even if it isn’t efficient. We just like each other that much. He’s not much of a planner, but I am, but because he’s not, it’s kind of rubbed off on me. I would love to plan all of our meals throughout the week on Sunday, but if I do that, usually one of us ends up not wanting the meal we’ve planned for mid-week. So I’m kind of stuck in a planning limbo.
Hahaha my husband and I do things a lot of the same way. He is NOT a planner at all but if I don’t plan to some extent everything gets out of control. Hoping to use this weekend to catch up!
You’re right with planning ahead- I think that’s the best thing to do! Also prioritizing and remembering that everything might not get done and that’s ok! I also like to have a catch up day (usually Sunday) to get things done that I didn’t get to throughout the week.
Hang in there – you’ll pick up time management again! I have done my fair share of starting blog posts after midnight (and sadly, still tend to write them rather late even though I’m not required to work late hours anymore – but I’m making myself work long hours! ha!). What IS in that Wink dessert? Anxious to hear more about it! Glad you guys got yourself a treat last night :).
I totally agree with you about Panera! I like their food, but it’s so pricey that I rarely go there.
I try to meal prep over the weekends (actually looking up recipes now!) and plan out fitness schedule for the upcoming week. I tend not to make excuses when I prepare properly and stick to my plan, regardless if it’s about meals, fitness, work, etc.
Well, I know you are a planner – you show your highlighted lists so I am sure you can do it. Like you say it is an adjustment. I definitely found I became much less efficient during my layoff.
Like you say, it is good that you are getting the extra hours … but one of the hard things is to just let things go a bit.
Yes I am trying to learning to let thing go 🙂
I love your idea about making 3 meals for the week and then having leftovers. I am going to try that this week!
I am also going to try the blog post calendar. As I am very new to blogging and learning so much from other bloggers…love this community!
been dying to try wink! let me know whatcha think. and a blogging calender?? ohh i think i need.
I’m still working on getting the blogging calendar down 🙂 but I’m working on it! Will let you know for sure.
Belated congrats on getting a job! Don’t know you at all and only recently started reading your blog– but very happy for you! I’m a graduate student right now so not technically working but school feels like a job and a half especially since i’m in quite a rigorous program. i don’t have class on fridays this semester so i love my long weekends and rarely do anything productive then. however, sunday mornings i spend a few hours planning out my week– workouts and meetings, potential study time– and i make a giant to do list for things that i need to get done during the week like emails to respond to, errands to run, etc. i actually love having some time on the weekend to plan first without having to do anything because it already makes me feel less cluttered. now it’s monday and i have to get studying!
Thank you! 🙂 I was only able to find 2 part time jobs but they will get us through until we move!
Sounds like you are very busy yourself – planning is essential I have found in being able to get through those crazy busy weeks! Planning and REST when you can!
