The day has finally come. After months of preparation, an injury and more training Wes will finally take the starting line of the Boston Marathon today!
There were many days where it was questioned if this would even happen.
To say I am proud of him is an understatement. It hasn’t been easy, it has come with many set backs, but he has kept powering through! I can’t wait to see him at the finish line!
In case you all are interested in tracking him today his bib number is 360.
I will be posting on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook throughout the day as long as my phone stays alive!
Yesterday I got up and ran 8 miles on the treadmill before we headed out for the day.
I couldn’t figure out how to get the hotel treadmill on marathon mode, so it cut me off at 60 minutes.
I restarted and finished out the 8 miles. It went pretty well but the gym was insanely hot!
That will probably be my only workout while we are traveling. Today will involve lots of walking and then tomorrow we are traveling back. I wanted to make sure I got a good workout in.
After I finished I showered and we headed to meet a friend from Erie for lunch.
Before we went to lunch we stopped by REI to pick up a couple Chocolate Gu’s, a protein bar and some Sports Beans for race day. It was the only place we could find open.
For lunch we decided to try out Boloco which is about 5 minutes from our hotel.
It is a build your own burrito (or bowl) kind of place. I ended up getting The Summer bowl and added quinoa, chicken, fajita vegetables and steamed broccoli.
It was really delicious! I was glad we tried out somewhere new.
Wes was much more plain and opted for white rice, tomato salsa, chicken and a few olives. He is very regimented in what he eats the day before a marathon.
We hung around the hotel for most of the day so that Wes could rest. We’ve been watching The Bible on the History Channel all weekend. Did anyone else see it?
It’s really good! Since we don’t have cable at home it was a nice treat to watch TV.
We headed out around 5:00 and went to the Olive Garden for dinner. Wes wanted to play it safe and go somewhere he was familiar with after his stomach issues during the Chicago Marathon.
I got the Minestrone Soup to start.
I forgot to take a picture, so this is once a majority of it was devoured.
Then enjoyed the Lasagna Primavera with chicken for my entree.
It was a relaxing but great day. Looking forward to watching the marathon and celebrating tonight!
I have to say the one thing this weekend has done is increased my motivation to run this marathon. It may not happen next year but I know without a doubt that everything I do will be working towards that goal. I cannot wait to make it happen one day and be there at the start line with Wes!
Do you have any pre race rituals?
What is a big running goal that you have?.
A big running goal I have is to break 1:40 for the half marathon, which is more than 4 minutes faster than my current time. I want to reach that goal within a year.
Best of luck to Wes! Hope he has a great race and I’m looking forward to hearing all about your day
That is an awesome goal!! Good luck!!
Thank you 🙂 He had a great time! Will be back with a full recap in a few days. It’s time to celebrate now!
Good luck to Wes! Sitting and waiting in athletes village right now and so crazy nervous/excited!
Good luck to you too!! Let me know how it went! 🙂
Good luck to Wes – thanks for the bib #, added him to my ‘stalking list’ on the app! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂 We had a blast!
Good luck to Wes and have so much fun in Boston today!!!!
Thank you Katie!! 🙂
Was so happy to track Wes today!!!! Glad you got to enjoy Boston a bit!
No real pre-race rituals aside from icing my knees and laying out all my gear.
My big racing goal is to run a half in all 50 states- I’m 5 states in and just had a baby, so it might take me until I’m 70 but its still a goal of mine.
Wow that is a great goal!!
