Yesterday was a complete easy run day. Boy was I excited to see that on my training plan! My body was ready to get out there and relax. We had a break in the ran between 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm so I jumped at the chance to get off the treadmill and get outside.
5 easy miles. I’ll say the run went good, but I know my body will appreciate tomorrow’s complete rest day!
Today’s 5 Things I’m Loving Friday is going to be mostly all about drinks! Ever since my hydration scare a couple of weeks ago I have been really focusing on making sure I am constantly drinking throughout the day.
Here are a few drinks I am loving lately plus one more fun item!
Nth Degree
Nth Degree Pure Performance drinks have quickly become my husband and I’s favorite sport drinks.
They make two different types: their regular Performance Drink and their Zero Calorie Sports Water.
It has been hard to find a sports drink that we both like that isn’t extremely overpowering. I use the performance drink pre-workout and then the sports water normally after for hydration.
All of their products contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
Their products also use Palatinose which is a low glycemic sugar:
- It is fully, but more slowly, digested so it provides the body with the full energy of carbohydrates over a longer period of time.
- It provides a more balanced glucose supply.
- As a low glycemic index carbohydrate, it has a lower effect on already normal blood glucose levels.
The flavors are all delicious and we go through so many of these bottles each week. Let’s face it, sometimes you just need something more than water!
Taste Nirvana Coconut Water
I have never been a coconut water fan. There I said it.
I know the craze hit a few years ago, but after trying a few brands I pretty much gave up and figured it just wasn’t for me.
I finally have found a Coconut Water I actually enjoy! I guess I shouldn’t have given up quite as quickly as I did. Taste Nirvana makes a coconut water that is naturally sweetened, no preservatives and has 600 mg of potassium!
It makes for a great post-workout drink.
It is a little thicker than some I have tried in the past but I love the flavor. I guess I have been on a real smoothie kick lately because like some of the other products I’ve mentioned on here adding this to my smoothies has given them such a delicious flavor!
If you were or still are a coconut water skeptic, give this one a try!
Tradewind’s Tea
I love iced tea. I have always loved iced tea for as long as I can remember. I guess you can blame that on being raced in the south. While there is nothing better than sweet tea – it is filled with several days worth of sugar.
I was introduced to Tradewind’s Tea recently and think I may be in love.
It’s delicious, refreshing and is a great tea substitute when you live somewhere that knows little to nothing about iced tea.
They come in sweetened and unsweetened. I personally enjoy using the unsweetened and then adding my own forms of natural sweetener to it.
Oatworks
Oatworks has quickly become one of my favorite smoothie additives. While, Oatworks is already a smoothie in itself I enjoy mixing it with other healthy additives and creating my own.
Oatworks’ smoothies are:
- 100% real juice
- Nothing artificial
- No sugar added
- No preservatives
- Packed with the power of 2 bowls of oatmeal
They also are gluten free, vegan friendly, dairy free, non-GMO, and contain no cholesterol.
They come in three main flavors which are delicious: Peach Mango, Pomegranate Blueberry and Strawberry Banana.
The combination of fruit and fiber from oats help to keep you energized and taste delicious.
My Soxy Feet
This one has nothing to do with drinks or hydration, but just a company that I personally really love.
I was recently given the opportunity to try out a pair of My Soxy Feet socks. They were created my Melissa Corp an avid runner, created My Soxy Feet as a way to keep inspiration up. Each pair of the socks that she makes is an ode to someone who has inspired or has helped her understand the interplay between challenge and joy.
I was able to try out the Heart & Soul socks. Not only are they extremely great and well made running socks, but they also provide a source of inspiration each time you look down.
You wouldn’t think that something as ordinary as socks could provide inspiration, but every once in a while you just need that little tiny push to get you out the door!
I have a passion for small business and loved what Melissa has created!
Tell me something you are loving right now!
What are your plans for the weekend?
I am very into coconut water but haven’t seen that brand yet. I am currently (and for a while now) loving GT’s Kombucha. This weekend I’ll be doing a 10 mile run (longest since boston marathon) and celebrating my littlest one’s 3rd birthday!
I have heard a lot of things about Kombucha but never tried it! Good luck on your 10 miler and HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY to your little one! Sounds like an amazing weekend!
Love those socks! I’ve tried a new protein bar, Probar, lately, and I really like them! The cookie dough flavor rocks. Just the price doesn’t (about $3/bar)
ProBar is delicious!
Geez there are so many drinks on the market I am unaware of! I’m pretty boring with drinks….water & coffee every day. Some days milk and gatorade for long runs. That’s about it.
Love the socks though!
Yes I usually am but tried a few different things recently! 🙂
i LOVE coconut water- buts its amazing how different some brands taste 🙂 Not sure what my favorite one is yet!
Yes I am learning that there are MANY different types it seems. Good luck on your marathon this weekend Katie!
oooooh I havent heard of any of those, actually…my soxy feet followed me on twitter yesterday, but I like the look of them 🙂 Oatworks looks pretty good to me! As does tradewinds tea 🙂 I do not really purchase many flavored drinks, I mostly stick to water to ensure I hydrate well enough! Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy your runs!
Yes I wish I could stick to water but sometimes I just need a little something extra 🙂 Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well! Run strong 🙂
I can’t get into coconut water for some reason. I’m breastfeeding right now so I’m all about hydration too! I’m guzzling water like no tomorrow. And funny thing… The Zooma race series is doing a photo contest and today’s theme is hydration!
How awesome! yes Hydration is so key and I can really tell a difference when I do it right versus when I slack on it.
So you add Oat Works to a smoothie? I couldn’t drink it because of the texture, but that’s a good idea to just add a bit to a smoothie to make it hardier.
It’s a very smooth consistency you can’t taste the oats per say but yes instead of drinking them straight I like to add them to smoothies to give it a little more!
Those socks are so cute! I’ve started a hunt for a pair of running socks that I absolutely love and those look like fun!
Zico makes a super yummy chocolate coconut water! My weekend plans included a run this morning and going to a Group Centergy, yoga/Pilates class with a friend on Sunday.
Those socks look adorable! I just have plain white underarmour running socks because I keep losing them/losing 1 out of a pair haha
I hate when that happens!
