Before I get into a recap of my running this week, I have to share something I am really excited about with you all.
Yesterday morning before we got on the road to head to a wedding in Pittsburgh, I set out on my long run for the week. After last week’s 9 mile disaster I have to admit I was a bit nervous.
I started off slow just to test out how I was going to be feeling. The weather was sunny and in the low 50s which is pretty much perfect.
I was surprised how fresh my legs felt. I ran my 5 miles Thursday early in the morning, so I knew my legs had plenty of time to rest and recover.
I ended up running 8 miles with an average pace of 8:47. Yes, you read that right 8:47. The best part about it was the fact that I was completely relaxed the entire time and felt great. My breathing never increased and I felt like I was on cruise control a lot of the time.
I haven’t had a run that felt that good in a long time. It was a great start to the day!
Here is a look at the week in review:
Monday (5/12)
2 mile warm up
8 x 400 (with 400 jog in between)
2 mile cool down
(8 miles)
Tuesday (5/13)

Wednesday (5/14)
0.5 mile warm up
45 minute fartlek
0.5 mile cool down
(6 miles)
Thursday (5/15)
5 miles easy
Friday (5/16)
Off
Saturday (5/17)
8 miles easy
Sunday (5/18)
1 mile warm up
20 minutes hard effort
1 mile cool down
Total of right around 37 miles same as week 1.
After we finished with our runs we packed up, dropped off our dog and headed to Pittsburgh for one of my husband’s friends weddings.
It was a nice break from Erie for the day. It’s always nice to get away, relax and visit with friends. Especially with all the craziness that has been going on lately.
This picture is proof that I really need a haircut or really a STYLE of some sort. We had a great time, but they didn’t serve dinner until 9:30 pm. I was STARVING!
I am going to cut this post short as we just got back from the wedding and I am ready to relax. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
What did you do this weekend?
How did your training go this week?.
Nice run 🙂 I bet the weather didn’t hurt a bit, I notice a big difference in how I feel just with lower humidity.
Oh me too Michele! Less humidity feels amazing!
Nice run, Sara!!! I’m heading out for 8 today and I hope it goes the same for me! You look great – love the dress!
Hope it went great Megan! 🙂 Thank you!!
Very nicely done Sara! You are running so strong! Have a great week! What race are you training for if any?
Not sure yet. I will find a 10k once this plan is over after 12 weeks but since we are moving I haven’t found one yet. Will look once we are settled in 🙂
Nice job on your run! It’s nice when it feels like autopilot sometimes…you know you’re doing something right! Can you explain how to do a 45 minute fartlek? Sounds tough!!
Basically a Fartlek is just intervals of hard effort vs. easy effort. So on the track I just run for 1 minute hard then slow for 2 minutes – then repeat. It just depends how I am feeling. Sometimes I will do longer intervals. It’s better to do outside if you can because it allows you to really take it easy and go based on effort not on a certain pace!
Congrats on a great run! Here’s to many more for ya!
Thanks Cecilia!
way to go on the run! those affirmation runs are needed. and love the pic of you two! hair is cute to me!
Thanks Lindsay 🙂
Congrats on that great run! I’ve been feeling a little burnt out lately, so I didn’t run a lot last week, and focused more on lifting – hoping for a good run sometime this week!
Sometimes we all just need to take some time off! Hope you feel better this week!
Awesome miles this week! I think I finished with 52.
Great job Matt!
Love it when a run goes by effortlessly! Usually the weather has a lot to do with it. And fueling properly.
It’s so true! Sometimes they surprise you 🙂
