Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions and comments on yesterday’s post in regards to running in the morning before the sun is up. I even received some great advice via email! (Yes, I received your emails for those that did and I will respond!)
This week is getting a bit crazy. I am slowly getting used to getting up, but after work on Wednesday I felt exhausted. I really hope that I feel a bit better for this morning’s 7 mile tempo run on the schedule. I can tell my body is ready for a little bit of extra sleep. I just can’t seem to get to bed as early as I’d like!
This morning my alarm is set up for 4:45 am so that should be a blast!
I realized (while laying in bed trying to go to sleep last night) that I forgot to announce the winners of the Reader Appreciation giveaway! The winners selected at random are:
Jabra Sport Headphones
Tarma Designs Necklace
Congrats ladies! Email me at saralovingontherun{at}gmail{dot}com with your information and I will get your prizes on their way to you!
I am happy to announce that Wednesday morning I finally braved the dark and headed out for an early morning run.
I ran to a road near our house that is well lit. It was about a mile there, I ran up and down it 3-4 times and then back home for a total of 7 miles.
I forgot how hard it is to judge pacing when it is dark out. Does anyone else have this problem?
Overall the run went well. I felt a little on edge running down our street because we live a bit out in the country, however it was so nice running back towards the house just as the sun was coming up. It was a wonderful way to start out the day!
On my run today I was thinking that we have officially been living in Virginia for 2 months! I really can’t believe it is wrong. In honor of that, I thought I would focus on things that I love about our new city so far:
1. Friendliness
I don’t know what it is about this city but everyone is just SO nice! No matter where you are everyone says hello, waves and smiles at you as you walk by. People go out of their way to help you. This was non-existent in Erie, it really is such a nice change of pace!
2. So Much to Explore
Living in this area is so much fun because there is so much outdoors to explore! One thing we missed a lot living in Pennsylvania was being able to get out and explore! There are endless possibilities here and I can’t wait to keep getting out and enjoying it! I love cities that cater to being outdoors and active!
3. Close to the Mountains AND the Beach
No matter where we want to go we are within a 3-4 hour drive. Which now seems like nothing! It is so nice to have the possibility to go to either when we have a weekend free. I am not sure we are going to have many more of those anytime soon though!
4. Food Variety
This may not be a big deal to some, but when we live in Pennsylvania we felt like the only food they had were chain restaurants and italian. We really missed the variety to chose from when we had a rare date night out! Here we have so many restaurants we want to try out! We can’t wait to try out new types of food and new restaurants!
5. Community
There is a really strong sense of community in Danville. Everyone looks out for everyone and people make you feel right at home no matter how new you are. It has been amazing the people we have already met, and we look forward to building life long friendships here!
What is your favorite city you’ve ever lived in?
What is something that is important to you about where you live?
Congrats on your run! Sounds like you found a good solution. Getting enough rest has been a real challenge for me with the Hanson’s program.
The first thing we noticed when we moved to Texas in 2005 was the friendliness of the people. We had lived in Seattle and San Diego before that and it really surprised us. Total strangers would say hi and just start talking to you in the checkout line, elevators, etc. The people in the south are wonderful that way. When visiting Finland last June on business, I actually stopped saying hi to passing runners because they would not even look at you when you passed – and they never even returned a wave. Seattle was similar to this.
I have to say that Austin is the place I have enjoyed living the most – even over San Diego and Seattle. It was a great mix of “weird-eclectic-friendly”. It has an awesome running culture too. Half the cars have 13.1 or 26.2 stickers on them 🙂
-Run with joy!
I have heard great things about Texas though I have never been there myself! 🙂
I am really looking forward to my rest day tomorrow. I am exhausted getting up at 4:30 this morning and then a long day at work REALLY took it out of me! Sleeping until 6:00 am is going to feel like a vacation!
being able to get to the mountains and the beach really is one of the best things about virginia!
Yes it is! LOVE it!
Dallas is my favorite place to run 🙂
Towson, MD was my favorite place to live in! I’m moving to upstate New York next week, so it’ll be nice to explore a new place. I already have a long run planned along Lake Champlain, it’s going to be so beautiful!
Sounds like a wonder place to live!
Emailing you now about the headphones. So excited!
