Good morning! Happy Wednesday! It’s hump day so that is something to be happy about right? It also means I have gotten through 3 runs of this week’s marathon training and 1 workout! I always feel so much better once I get into it so that makes me happy as well!
It’s been a while since I have shared a day in the life post with you all, and since I am not in training again I thought it’d be fun!
This is a document of my day yesterday, on Tuesday. Though aside from the type of run I do most of my days are the same. I like being on a pretty set schedule, it really helps me when things get busy!
Without further ado, here we go…
3:35 A.M. – Alarm Goes Off
Tuesday and Thursday are my earliest days. I won’t always get up this early, but with the schedule Wes is on now it allows me to do the first part of the run with him so it helps!
I drag myself out of bed, dress quickly, take Zoe out, and then start my run. I’ve found that the less thinking I do the better. Just get out and get it started, after a mile or two I seem to wake up.
3:45 A.M. – 5:30 A.M. – Running/Workout
This is one of my longer days but having extra time and not feeling rushed is especially helpful when I have a tough workout.
Today’s workout was: warm up, 8 x 600 meters (with 400 recovery), and cool down. More details on that in Sunday’s post.
5:30 A.M. – Arrive Back Home
I get back to the house around 5:30 AM and get started on my food prep. I bring 2 meals and 2 snacks with me every day. On days after workouts, I especially make sure I am not missing anything so I can recover properly!
I take about 10-15 minutes to get everything prepped and ready to go so I can just grab it as I am going out the door.
5:45 A.M. – 6:05 A.M. – Core Work/Stretching
While I am waiting for Wes to finish showering, I do a few core exercises and stretching. I’ve really tried to make this more of a focus this time around, and I can already see improvements.
6:10 A.M. – 7:30 A.M. – Shower/Hair/Get Dressed
This one goes without much explanation. I shower, dry and straighten my hair. Put on my makeup and get presentable for another day at work.
I always try to leave the house by 7:30 A.M. so I have time to get my coffee and eat breakfast before the work day actually begins.
7:30 A.M – 8:00 A.M – Travel/Breakfast
I leave the house right around 7:30 and get to work around 7:45. I plug my laptop in, turn on my computer and then head up to get a much needed cup of coffee.
After I get back to my desk I eat my breakfast, drink my coffee and make sure I am ready to go at 8:00 A.M. to get another day underway!
My go to breakfast these days is an English muffin with hard boiled egg and avocado. If you are anything like my husband you’ll think it’s nasty, but I love it!
12:30 P.M. – 1:30 P.M. – Lunch
I usually just hang out and eat at my desk, but this day in particular we have a meeting during lunch. The good news is they provided us lunch! Win!
1:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Work
I work away for the rest of the afternoon and leave around 5:00 PM.
5:15 P.M. – 5:45 P.M. – Strength Workout
I try to do my strength workouts on the days where I have a workout. That way if I end up sore from it, I can work it out during my easy day on Wednesday.
Today’s workout was from the Advanced Marathoning book (repeat 2x)
- 10 Push Ups
- 10 Dumbbell Lat Rows (each arm)
- 15 Bench Dips
- 15 Step Ups (per leg)
- 15 Lunges (per leg)
- 20 Squats
- 10 Alternating Shoulder Press
- 15 Seated Tricep Dips
I’m crunched for time a lot in the evenings since I need to go to bed early to get up, so I get as much as I can done in the shortest amount of time.
I usually will also have some vegetables roasting in the oven while I am getting it done to kill two birds with one stone.
6:15 P.M. – 7:15 P.M. – Work
This is the hour I sit down and try to focus in getting work done for the week. Whether it is writing, blog posts, responding to emails, image creation, etc.
I try to get as much done as I can and usually try to call it quits around the time my husband gets home from work so that I can spend the few short hours we have left together.
7:15 P.M. – 8:30 P.M. – Hubby Time
Depending on how much work he’s got left, sometimes we will just sit on the couch together and work; however we usually use this time to chat and relax together.
8:30 P.M. – Preparation
At 8:30 most nights I get up and start prepping for the next day. I take Zoe out to go potty, get my running clothes ready to go for the next morning, clean the litter box, and clean up the kitchen before slipping into bed.
9:00 P.M. – 9:15 P.M. – Lights Out
You don’t have to tell me twice to go to bed during the week.
There you have it. This was my Tuesday, though most of my days look pretty similar!
What time do you go to bed at night?
What is your favorite time in your day? Mine is definitely when my husband gets home from work and we get some time together!
I’m in bed by 9-930 too! When people hear I get up around 4:30 to run their first question is always “What time do you go to bed?!?!” I’m always so ready to lay down and relax by the end of the day.
3:35am! That is amazing… you are an inspiration to me to focus on doing early morning runs as I start my Hanson’s plan (round 2) the first week of July. Do you have to drive to a track for your speed workouts, or do you do them at a park or on the street? I don’t have a track near me that is unlocked, so it is at least a 15 min drive each way to one that is. I hate that some districts here in TX lock up their tracks.
(that egg muffin sandwich looks fantastic right now!)
~ Run with joy!
I wish I could go to the track, but with the area the track is in and it being dark I don’t feel comfortable doing that on my own. I go to a road now far from my house and do my speed work. It’s a bit monotonous doing it on the same road all the time but it does the trick! 🙂
Getting up in the morning isn’t easy by any means, but when I get off work and it is close to 100 degrees I am SO SO thankful! That and I just don’t have that kind of energy at the end of a work day!
Our schedules couldn’t be more different 😉 Except for the weekends, I usually run after work, so I’m never done before 9:00, 9:30pm and never have dinner before 10:00pm. I try to go to bed by 11:30pm/midnight at most but, except for Saturday because of my long run, I’m never up before 7:30am 😉
I usually sleep in on Saturdays as well BUT recently I’ve been getting up since my husband has to work early on Saturdays the past couple weeks. You are an inspiration to me because I could not imagine training after work! That’s awesome!!
Eggs and avocado… YUM!!!! My husband is Colombian, they make a salsa using boiled eggs, avocado, onion, cilantro & salt and eat it on boiled potatoes…. SO. GOOD!!! So the combination of eggs and avocado is not at weird as you think!!
Glad to hear I am not crazy 🙂
