What a week. It has not gone anything like I had envisioned, but I’m just going to shake it off. I’ve still got some things to figure out, but I’m taking it one day at a time.
I took resting very seriously Thursday night and picked up these delicious Palm Breeze drinks from Walmart.
Maybe it was the frustration of the week, or maybe I just needed a little breather but they seriously hit the spot!
I’m sure it’s not the ideal way to end a tough work-week of training but it seemed okay to me! Sometimes you just need to relax!
The drink came in two tropical flavors: Ruby Red Citrus and Pineapple Mandarin Orange. They both sounded delicious, so why not try them both right?
I’m not a huge drinker, I only usually do it occasionally socially but this hit the spot after a pretty rough and exhausting week.
I’m definitely going to be picking up some more of these when we have some friends over later next week. I think they will for sure be a big hit and a great way to celebrate another training week is complete.
We all have those little things that we enjoy that aren’t necessarily healthy but they help us relax and unwind. A few of mine include:
- Frozen Yogurt
- Gummy Worms
- Cake (any kind)
- Fruity delicious drinks (just like the Palm Breeze)
- Mexican Food
I don’t know what it is about these things, but when I treat myself it is with one of the things above. Sometimes you have to let yourself live a little, relax and not take life so seriously. It wasn’t meant to be!
I had a bad training week, but there is always another run, always another workout, and another new week to look forward to. There is no reason to look back.
I’ve got so focused on a time goal that I forgot the real reason I run. To enjoy it. Just like with these things I enjoy that I’ve shared with you today, running needs to be just an enjoyable. Sure it is going to be hard some days and easy others, but running overall needs to be something you enjoy.
What are your guilty pleasures?
What are your “treats”?

Just a quick hi from me. I found your blog by googling the Hanson Method success stories. Yours is up there after the search.
I am doing Chicago as well and also using the Hanson Method. First time for me. I like it so far. We’ll see how it goes.
Any reason why you use Friday as your rest day? I follow the program and that has Wednesday as rest day. Just curious.
I used to live in Chicago and I have run the marathon 4 times already. The course is not tough but the weather is always unpredictable. I’ve had it super hot and crazy cold, never really had a nice temperature but I guess that’s ok.
I hope to BQ in Chicago (I’m female 50y/o so I need to be sub 4 hrs). I did a 4.01 in Phoenix this year with lots of intestinal issues and porta pottie visits so I am confident that I can do it just need my tummy to behave just for once.
Wish you lots of miles and smiles with your training. I’ll visit your blog to see how it’s going. 🙂
I’ve run Chicago twice before 3 years ago but have never had a good race there. Hoping for a change this time!
Last training period I did Hansons I switched up my rest days because I’ve just always taken Friday as a rest day and it worked for me. As long as I kept it consistent. I’m actually going to be modifying my plan a little bit in the upcoming weeks. After 20 weeks the first time around for my marathon last December and now again I’ve decided I just need a little bit more mental stimulation.
Good luck on your BQ!!! A great course for it. Crossing my fingers for good weather!
