It seems like for the most part you all wanted to see weekly updates. I was a bit torn on how to do this, but I decided to include it along with my running each week so you can see how that progresses as well. I know it will be so nice to have these to look back later on.
Let’s start out with some of the basics and then I will get more into the running. If you all would like to see something different on here at some point, just let me know! I am very flexible since this is a whole new realm for me.
Baby in Week 14
14 weeks: Little one is currently the size of a lemon or peach based on which site you look at!
I guess this is officially my first bump picture.
Weight Gained: I was a bit hesitant to put this one on here, because it’s not really important, but I want to be honest so I’ll include it in here. The last appointment I had was at 11 weeks and I had gained 1 lb. at the time. I will have another appointment Monday, so hopefully I’ll have more of an update for you then.
Symptoms: This week I am still feeling pretty tired. I usually get the most tired around 1:00-2:00 pm and struggle for a good portion of the afternoon. Thankfully work has been pretty busy so that helps. I have had some stretching pains off and on as well, but nothing too uncomfortable.
Food Aversions: None. I’m hungry all the time and will eat pretty much anything.
Food Cravings: I really haven’t had anything too specific, though on the occasion I’ll get a craving for a cheeseburger. Not the healthiest, but I’ve enjoyed them a couple times already. I don’t crave sweets, I have definitely been leaning more towards the salty foods. That being said, I did make myself a batch of cupcakes last week and sent the rest with my husband to work. I wanted them, so why not?
Sleep: It’s off and on. There are some nights I sleep like a baby, and others were a struggle. I find that my hips are hurting and I get really uncomfortable a lot. I ordered a Boppy Pillow this week and so far it has really helped improve my sleep! I’ll go more into detail on that in the coming weeks when I’ve had more of a chance to try it out. I didn’t think I’d need something like that this early, but it really has made a big difference in my body feels!
Baby Items Purchased: None so far. I’ve been doing a lot of research online on strollers, car seats, etc. but haven’t pulled the plug on anything.
Exciting Happenings this Week: I had an elective ultrasound on Wednesday, which I was really excited about! The baby was moving all around and it was so wonderful to see he/she so active! They got some great pictures, heard the heartbeat, and even took a pretty good guess on the gender! We are still going to wait until the anatomy scan to confirm before we announce it.
I’m so in love already!
Looking Forward To: My next appointment on Monday and then scheduling my anatomy scan! We will be having some tests run in the next couple weeks to, so looking forward to getting those out of the way.
Running in Week 14
I have actually had a pretty good week when it comes to running. I’ve still stuck to my early morning runs on the treadmill. Some mornings I feel exhausted and the other mornings I feel more like myself. There really is no rhyme or reason to it; I’ve just learned to go with the flow.
Here is a quick rundown of my running and workouts this week:
Monday – 50 minutes on the treadmill (5.16 miles)
Tuesday – 50 minutes on the treadmill (5.20 miles) in the AM, 30 minutes on the spin bike in the PM
Wednesday – 30 minutes on the treadmill (3.06 miles), 30 minutes on the spin bike
Thursday – 50 minutes on the treadmill (5.25 miles)
Friday – Rest day
Saturday – 8.09 miles outside
Sunday – 40 minutes on the treadmill (4.15 miles), 20 minutes on the spin bike
Monday was the toughest run of the week on the treadmill. Getting up so early in the morning can become even more difficult when you’re pregnant. However; when I woke up on Tuesday I felt like my old self, and it was so nice to feel “normal” again.
I’m really enjoying the days that I incorporate cross training. I ended up adding in spinning 3 times this week, and I can really tell my body is thanking me for it. I’m so happy we decided to invest in a spin bike during my pregnancy.
Saturday was my best run simply because it was outdoors. I knew the high for the day was going to be 97 degrees, so I got up about 6:00 AM, drank some calories, and was out the door about 6:40 AM. I was able to beat the heat and get some good miles in for the day!
Overall, running is going well so far. I take it a day/week at a time and see what my body can do. I enjoy running and feel so close to this little baby when we run, but I know that I have to be realistic and when my body tells me it needs to break I need to be ready for that.
Week 14 was a great one, but I sure am looking forward to seeing what the weeks ahead will bring!
Great job, momma! It’s fun to re-live what running through pregnancy feels like through your eyes. Getting through these weeks will make you feel like you can do ANYTHING! Girls are made of tough stuff! 🙂
Congratulations! I just had my first baby in April. Like you, I was a pretty serious runner before getting pregnant. I was afraid to do too much also. It is great to see you are listening to your body. I made it to 28 weeks and then switched to walking due to an injury. I will say that staying active through pregnancy did make for an easy recovery and curbed the weight gain some. It hasn’t been too difficult to get back into running either.
I love hearing about others journey through pregnancy and running! Thanks so much! Congrats on your little one!
