Tomorrow is the BIG day! It’s so hard to believe that just 12 weeks ago I was starting this journey wondering how I could possibly do it. Now, here we are and while there is still some lingering doubt in my mind I’m ready to give it my all!
I figured I’d do one last marathon training recap as this is officially the end of my taper. Things looked a little different for me this week but still stuck to my plan and what’s done is done. We will see tomorrow how it all plays out!
Monday – 5 miles
I did a simple and less taxing workout on Monday because I still wanted to get my legs to move a bit. I structured the workout to be 2 mile easy, 2 miles moderate, and 1 mile easy.
My splits ended up being 9:16, 8:58, 8:11, 8:15, and 9:00. I was still catching from a lack of sleep so my legs didn’t feel great but it wasn’t terrible.
Tuesday – 4 miles
Tuesday I woke up after another tough night of sleep and headed out with E for 4 easy miles. I was really thankful for easy miles because that was about all my body could handle. They didn’t really feel easy but I was still happy to get my legs moving and the beautiful day.
Wednesday – 4 miles
Wednesday looked a lot like Tuesday BUT we received the Merlin’s Magic Sleep Suit on Tuesday and that allowed us finally to get a bit more sleep! Thank goodness!
I spent a lot of time during these 4 easy miles thinking about my race goals and getting my head right to start really thinking about running this marathon. This was the first day that it finally felt REAL.
Thursday – 3 miles
Thursday was the last day of running in Danville, and it was my last stroller run with E. It’s hard to believe because I spent so much time with him out on those trails. It was a bit bittersweet.
I ended up running 1 easy, 1 hard, and 1 easy for my Thursday workout. One last day to get a little leg turnover. My splits were 9:14, 7:33, and 9:00. My legs were starting to feel better thanks to a little TLC and Glutamine!
Friday – Off
Friday was our travel day to Boston so instead of stressing my body to get up early and get in a few miles I took the extra sleep. We had to get on the road early since it is a long drive and right now the extra sleep is more beneficial than a few miles.
Saturday – Off
The original plan was to run 2 miles on Saturday. I had a strange thing happen though around 12:00 AM on Saturday morning. I woke up to a lot of pain in my groin. It thought it was just a bad position I was laying in but no matter how I turned it hurt. I got up to walk around and it kept getting more and more painful. I stretch, rolled, and even took a hot bath but it just kept getting worse.
I finally woke my husband up when I couldn’t stand it anymore. I was at the point where I couldn’t even move my leg. Sheer panic.
We think my muscle got tight from a combination of riding all day in the car (12 hours) and not stretching afterwards. LESSON LEARNED! I’m doing everything I can to make it feel better before Monday but I won’t lie it’s pretty frustrating.
We did enjoy a fun day of packet pick up and expo shopping!
Sunday – 1 mile
The plan for Sunday is to test out one mile and see how my groin is feeling! Fingers crossed!
How did your running go this week?
Anyone else in Boston?
Hope everything went great today! I have been really enjoying your blog. (BTW I love your new balance? shoes in the expo photo! what style are they?)
Can’t wait to read the race recap. I had a few friends run today. I heard it was pretty hot out. I hope the groin pain resolved!
It was definietly a hot one! Hope the have the race recap up very soon! 🙂 THANK YOU!
I hope it went well! loved following your training. (BTW I love your shoes in the expo photos, which style of new balance? are they?)
Hey Erin! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this! I believe they are the New Balance 574s! I got them at an outlet so I’m not entirely sure 🙂
Thanks! sorry I posted twice! I typoed my name on the first one then fat fingered it into disappearing into waiting for moderation when I tried to fix it 🙂 I’m excited for your race recap!
