For those of you who don’t know, the piriformis is a tiny muscle that is located in the front portion of the sacrum in the glutial region. The problem that runners typically run into with the piriformis is when it becomes irritated and in return pinches the sciatic nerve which runs right beneath. This causes pain in the buttocks area or hip.
